The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Sir Walter Scott. This design was the winner of a competition, and the work of a joiner and self-taught architect, George Meikle Kemp. He was chosen as the competition winner in 1838. The tower is 200 feet and 6 inches high and built of Binny sandstone, from a nearby quarry. MORE...
